When I first visited Singapore 32 years ago with my dad, I spent the whole month at Mandarin Hotel (now Meritus Mandarin Hotel), at Orchard. Back then, there were only one of two towers facing Orchard and the top floor was an exclusive Western sytle restaurant (the other tower was under construction). Chatterbox was located in the first floor (until this year) and we used to go there for lunch when we did not pay a visit to the hawker center (I loved there frozen thirst quencher). Chatterbox chicken rice is not one of my favorite chicken rice as of now and at 24++ per person, it is indeed rediculous but 30 years ago, it was my gateway to Singaporean cuisine. Lucky Plaza, Cuppage Plaza, Punggol seafood area, Newton Circus, Cold Storage are still good memories. Now they are quite different like anything else for better or worse.

Chatterbox
